About me

OccupationI'd say journalism, but isn't that a dead profession?
LocationOregon, United States
IntroductionI am a Gen X-er. An award winning journalist, writer and poet. I am above all things a lover of music. While I love to hang with geeks and worship at the alter of intellect, I am only truly at home with artists. I love creative types, especially musicians.
InterestsWriting, Music and Reading. Music, Writing and Reading. I like to write. I did this professionally but, it is also a passion and I now do it my expansive spare time. Music is a passion as well. I listen to it constantly. There is no time day or night that I don't have music on. And reading. I love to read. But, it must be thoughtful and intelligent, not pedantic. Oh, and I can't forget cooking. It's my nirvana. I am fascinated by religion. I am not religious myself. I've tried, just didn't work. I am too logical and science is logic. My interest is not in the religion itself, but more in the WHY people believe what they believe. I am motivated to try to understand why a person/people would accept abuse, torture and repression in the name of a god. This concept behooves me. I've also recently taken up the study of politics as a hobby.
Favorite moviesMost anything with explosions, action movies, most vampire movies but NOT Twilight or 30 Days of Night! Anything with Robert Downey, Jr. Most anything with Johnny Depp. I love Jason Statham movies. I really enjoyed The Hurt Locker and Sherlock Holmes. The Departed, Blade Runner, Young Frankenstein, Capote, Goodnight and Good Luck, The Constant Gardener, Children of Men, Apocalypse Now, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Goodfellas, The Departed, 3:10 to Yuma are just a few of my favs. I hate to admit it but I love musicals! I have seen most every musical film made. Favorites: Victor Victoria, Priscilla Queen Of The Desert, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Cabaret . . . oh, I know there's more, I'll have to give this a bit more thought.
Favorite musicAny band my partner Kelly is in, because he rocks most in the world! Then there is Kurt Cobain and David Bowie; my gods. Followed by and not in any order, though I should really alphabetize this list: Elliott Smith, Radiohead, Ryan Adams, STP, Filter, SoundGarden, Pearl Jam, The Off Spring, Faith No More, Live, The Deftones, Sublime, The Black Crows, Seether, Disturbed, REM, Tool, Velvet Revolver, Audio Slave, Three Days Grace, Green Day, Our Lady Peace, Prodigy, Rage Against The Machine, Silverchair, Soul Asylum, Army of Anyone, Hinder, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, POD, System of a Down, Godsmack, Smashing Pumpkins, Seven Mary Three, Weezer, Alice in Chains, The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Black Flag, The Clash, The Cult, Thin Lizzy, Johnny Cash, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Stevie Wonder, Danzig, Rush, The Velvet Underground, Primus, Iggy Pop and The Stooges, Old ZZ Top, Janis Joplin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Neil Young, The New York Dolls. To many to name.
Favorite booksThe Grapes Of Wrath, hands down. Honestly I believe most current fiction is just trash. As I said pedantic. I prefer the classics in general. It would be easier to list by authors: Truman Capote, Tennessee Williams, John Steinbeck, Bret Easton Ellis, T. S. Eliot, William Blake, Walt Whitman, Allen Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac, Arthur Miller, Edward Albee, Anton Checkov, Sam Shepard, and (newly discovered by me that is) Wallace Stevens. And of course, Hunter S. Thompson. Right now I am reading mind candy: John Le Carre, who writes really good characters, now only if his plots were a bit tighter.
