Introduction	Earlier, in another life, I often criss-crossed the deep south with a reporter friend. I drove because he was usually hung over and he slept. He always woke up wanting to know where we were. “An hour out of Jackson” was always my answer. He went back to sleep not caring if we were heading to Jackson or had just left it.
