About me

Location Torino, TO, Italy
Introduction Freddie Murphy is a composer based in Torino, IT. His musical practice involves experimenting on the duality of natural/synthetic, using acoustic recordings processed into synthetic sounds, as well as mimicking natural sounds using analogue tools. His research has shifted from cathartic performances to express the Catholic sense of guilt to an intimate investigation on feelings of loss and acceptance connected with grief. The Night shows no Dawn, his latest output, started as an itinerant radio show airing each time one hour before Dawn. It featured book extracts plus a selection of apt contemporary music: words and tunes to sink into a Dawn that may not come. The Night shows no Dawn also turned into a live performance. Murphy’s own rewriting of a vigil, celebrated by a wailer gathering together a community willing to contemplate the idea that an end will come. As a founding member of the duo Father Murphy, he performed extensively in Northern America, Europe, Russia and Australia. Films with his original soundtrack were selected by the Locarno Film Festival, Karlovy Vary, MoMA Fortnight Doc among others.
