Introduction The Jazz Foundation of America (JFA) has been around for 18 years saving elder jazz and blues musicians who work hard 6 and 7 days a week, completely self-sufficient, living gig to gig, never asking for help from anyone. The music has always been there, in the background of our greatest celebrations and in our darkest moments. They have spent their lives making us rich all these years. Hundreds of great musicians who played and recorded with legends like Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Ella, Sarah Vaughan, Etta James, James Brown, Abbey Lincoln, Quincy Jones, Hank Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Chet Baker, and Ray Charles, just to name a few, were saved from homelessness, eviction and hunger by the Jazz Foundation Even the legends themselves come through our doors everyday.
