IntroductionI spent my adult life on dual tracks - education and politics/public policy. I served on an urban Board of Education, 3 terms in the state legislature, and 4 terms as County Executive. I also served as President of my Education Association and, later, as Vice President and primary advocate for a state-wide association of universities. Over 20 years of elected service, I served on numerous boards including 6 years at the National Association of Counties, 3 years as Chair of a Regional Transportation Authority, and 7 years as Commissioner of the Port Authority of NY/NJ. I was a member of the local and county Democratic Committee and was later elected as Democratic Municipal Chair, County Chairman, and as a Member of the Democratic National Committee from 1990 to 2000. I served as a Delegate to 4 Presidential Conventions, Chaired of the NJ State DNC Delegation in 1992, and was Chair of the NJ State Presidential Campaign in 1996. I retired from public service in late 2000 and have been teaching as an Adjunct Professor of Sociology in Albany, NY. I currently hold a BA in Social Science, a Master's Degree in Sociology, and an Honorary Doctorate in Public Policy (2000).
