IntroductionI am a passionate competitor and educator. I enjoy making the most of the opportunities I am given. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes (acT1ve Runner) early in my childhood means I really do not know what it is like NOT to be diabetic. I am lucky as the only way of life I know is one with diabetes. I’m proud to be diabetic, the disease has had a positive effect on my life. Diabetes has shaped who I have become and allows me to rise to many challenges. I have recently decided to take on the challenge of running marathons. I can’t describe the sense of achievement you get when completing a marathon when you have diabetes. It’s not something the everyday person can do, let alone a diabetic. The second element of who I am is an educator. I enjoy teaching PE. The small changes I can make to the lives of students I work with makes my job seem more rewarding than any other. We need to make PE a subject where students learn real skills they can take away and use in their lives. I’m inspired by people like Sir Ken Robinson, Jamie Oliver and Bono who recognise education is the medium to improve the future. I look forward to hearing from anyone who chooses to be part of my journey.
