| Introduction | We were drawn together by our similarities and differences. We share a great enthusiasm for children's literature. We love author studies, tying literature to writing, and using literature to enhance every content area. We love allowing children to learn through exploration and inquiry. We compliment each other through our strengths. Mrs. Shaw is a master at inspiring young children to write. She is skilled at selecting mentor texts and using the wonder of small moments to validate a child's thoughts and stories. Mrs. Wold's strength is assessing reading and looking for gaps that might create reluctant readers. She shares thousands of books with her students each year. She gets to know the students well and helps them find books that they are motivated to read. Organizationally, Mrs. Shaw is the one who keeps us tidy and ensures that the children can easily locate the tools they need. Mrs. Wold has the knack for preventing behavior issues before they happen and structuring activities so they flow smoothly. We sought each other out and requested permission to design this collaborative classroom. We're excited to share the results with you. |
