| Introduction | My name is Kali. It is a name given to me by my teacher, Rama - Dr. Frederick Lenz. His picture is at the top of this page! Kali is an Indian goddess who represents powerful love and rapid change. When a teacher gives you a name, it does not mean you are the name, but it is your zen koan to explore. The pictures of Kali usually show her holding up the bloody heads of rakshasas (evil beings) that she has just beheaded. You go, Kali! She knocks out evil and is not gentle about this, as in, "Here, evil people, go to therapy for 30 years and maybe you will feel better." Nope. Kali sees evil and destroys it. I studied with Frederick Lenz for 17 years. Before that, I studied with another teacher of meditation for 15 years. My life is divided up by spiritual teachers. The first years were spent in a pleasant fog, undoubtedly better than drugs, but when I met Rama at age 33, there was a huge awakening. That process continues, as I work in my career, work out physically to avoid massive jellyfish-ism, log many adventures and continue to process the millions of things that Rama taught, learning every day. I have 3 dogs, live on the West Coast, and enjoy radishes. |
