Introduction | Admittedly self-indulgent Brooklynite who refuses to get lost in Babyland: I like graffiti, sneakers, 1992, text messages, post-modern feminism, E!...and hanging out with Hayes! I love being called mommy but I hate being identified as one. I actually remember life before baby--because it was fun! Now there is just more of life to enjoy. My three-year-old keeps me running, and I make sure we both stay laced. Because being mommy is just another part of life that I refuse to lose my cool over. If you can relate, email me at brandhik@yahoo.com. Or if you can appreciate a cool womens' website, visit My Purple Hayes Daze at Twolia.com. |
Favorite Movies | Tarantino (Grindhouse), Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Spike Lee, Shaw Brothers classics, Jerry Henry films, Shottas featuring Kymani Marley. |
Favorite Music | Anything on MTV in '81: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Blondie, Michael Jackson. Hip-hop circa '90-'93: A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Eric B. and Rakim, MC Lyte. The legends: Prince, Sade, Madonna. The hard-to-classify: Bjork, Neneh Cherry, Fiona Apple, Cody Chestnut. The new stuff: Pharrell Williams, Lenny Kravitz, Kelis. And some cheesy stuff that I'm embarassed to admit I actually like. |
Favorite Books | Read? An entire book? Umm...I have a three year old, a thousand jobs, bills to pay, and exactly three seconds of spare time a day. So nothing lately. But here are a few that kept me up late before baby: Lao Tzu by Tao Te Ching. The Art and Power of Being a Lady by Noelle Cleary and Dini Von Mueffling. All Souls' Rising by Madison Smartt Bell. Guns Germs and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared Diamond. |
