About me

OccupationTEAM Africa HIV/AIDS Coordinator
IntroductionThis Blog is dedicated to a church-to-church, people-in-the-pews response to the AIDS crisis in Africa, and Zimbabwe in particular. In spite of the millions of dollars that have been poured into Africa in the name of AIDS, some of which money achieved the purpose for which it was intended, by far the greatest measurable achievements have been accomplished by poor people helping poor people. In some cases, it is the poor who are helping the destitute. Felt need, when coupled with genuine heart compassion drives the only sustainable response to the curse of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Our vision is to facilitate this response through coordinating and blending locally-based national and international initiatives. We purpose to achieve sustainable answers to the problems of Africans infected, affected and at risk by HIV/AIDS.
InterestsBud was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and grew up in the Zambezi Valley. Bud was fulfilling his boyhood dream of a Landrover, a gun, a dog and the bush during seven years of administrative work in the tribal areas of Zimbabwe when he met Mandy. Mandy was born in Johannesburg, but grew up in Zimbabwe. Mandy was training as a primary school teacher when she and Bud met. Bud and Mandy were married following a year of courtship and two-year engagement. Their lives took a dramatic turn, including time in the United States, ending seven years later in their return to Zimbabwe with a little boy (Heath) and little girl (Erin) in tow. Bud and Mandy worked together to connect with people at the level of their deepest spiritual need and then gathered those people together into functioning groups of followers of Christ. In 1998, Bud took up the position of West Coast Regional Director for TEAM of Canada. He and Mandy settled in Abbotsford BC, then in August of 2008 were asked to coordinate TEAM’s HIV/AIDS work in Africa.
