| Introduction | Joan was born and raised in southern Alberta and lived in Red Deer, Edmonton and Calgary as an adult. She has a B. Sc. in Neuroscience from the University of Lethbridge and worked as a Behavior Therapist specializing in violent individuals with special needs. After a 14-year hiatus from her B. FA. due to chronic illness, Joan returned to the program to explore themes of healing, metamorphosis, transformation, renewal and growth. She is a visual based artist using painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and performance. Joan’s work often has an autobiographical narrative exploring symbolism and coloration. |
