| Introduction | Associate Professor at the Nagoya City University, Nagoya, Japan, specializes in Japanese Religions, Modern Buddhism and Sociology of Religion. She received her doctoral degree in Religious Studies from the University of Tokyo, Japan. She is interested in understanding the role of religion in contemporary society and this led her to study Engaged Buddhist movements in Japan and elsewhere. Currently she is involved in the study of faith based initiative in peacebuilding, conflict resolution and development, and the impact of religious volunteerism on the civil society. She is also conducting fieldwork on transnational voluntary activities by Buddhist organizations in Asia. She has published on Engaged Buddhism, Buddhist ethics, modern Japanese Buddhism, and New religious movements. She is the author of Nihon no Syakai-Sanka Bukkyo [Engaged Buddhism in Japan] (Toshindo, Tokyo, 2005)
ランジャナ・ムコパディヤーヤ インド生まれ。1991年、デリー大学社会学部卒業、1993年、同大学大学院社会学修士課程修了。デリー大学の中国日本研究科M.Phil.課程では日本研究に着手、1997年、同課程修了。 1997年に来日。1999年、東京大学大学院人文社会系研究科宗教学宗教史学専門分野博士課程入学、2003年、文学博士取得。 現在、名古屋市立大学大学院人間文化研究科准教授。 研究分野は近代日本仏教、仏教福祉、仏教の社会活動、宗教社会学。 |
