Introduction	I am the mother of two remarkable people, Goldie and the girl - I watch them navigating childhood and early adulthood so much more successfully than I did, happily, and it makes me happy. I work in a local government job. The decisions I make there have a real impact on people's lives. That's one of the things that keeps me awake at night. I've never grown out of needing music as a way to understand how I feel, and confirmation that I'm not alone. If it didn't feel sort of inappropriate at my age, I'd have posters of The National on my bedroom wall. I was married for 20 something years to Snake, an artist, who is also a nurse and a father. I am a bit crap socially, but I try, I put myself in social situations a lot when, really, I'd always choose to be at home with a book. In the same way that I'm really scared of heights but will climb things anyway. Trying to get better.
