How is an ankle unlike a consequence?
A consequence is a result of an action, situation or decision. An ankle just is. A consequence happens. An ankle exists apart from decisions, unless we consider the decisions of the parents to create another human being and then a new ankle is created, which is a consequence. The ankle just follows along, unappreciated until the ankle no longer works well.
