| Introduction | The dream of a school in Jubilee Blanc, Haiti was realized in 2009 with the help of Emory Wilson. Beginning the school entailed finding teachers, children, materials for each, and devising a curriculum.Deciding to begin with 5 year olds, we set out to find the 50 we felt we could handle. The children did not have birth certificates so we looked for missing teeth!Fathers, brothers, and mothers turned out to sharpen pencils, sweep, and build the school. Women helped at cement pouring time, boys pushed carts with dirt, dads learned to build rafters. Inside, 2 Haitian teachers and 48 adorable children formed the class of 2021.After pounding the last nail in the 2 room tin school, dad's came in and peered over their children's shoulders, people peeked over the tin.In 2010 we added 2 more classrooms.105 children are learning math, reading, French, music, art, and Bible. The staff has grown to a stateside and on-site administrator, 3 American and 3 Haitian teachers, several missionaries, and volunteers. All materials need to be carried in from the US. Our walls are turning from tin to concrete and children wanting to come in still peek. The needs are many and all talents are useful. Join us! |
