| Introduction | Something special happens when people realize their voice will be recorded and published as well as their image. With natural sound documentary, the subject can tell the story instead of someone reading from a script. This is the way I work now but there is room for all kinds and there is not just one approach to news or documentary video. I was lucky enough to work for the Chicago Tribune which jumped onboard the video train when it started to pull out not long ago. They invested in the idea that web video can be a powerful new tool for delivering information. And they invested in me by allowing me to crank out videos for daily stories as well as longer projects. Now I'm going freelance and exploring new opportunities. Before the Tribune, I spent 20-years at the San Jose Mercury News as a photojournalist and photo editor. It was the best education you could ask for and I was honored to work with many great journalists there. Now I synthesize my journalistic skills constructing narratives with video. |
