Introduction	There's a difference between being realistic and being pessimistic. Being realistic does not mean that you cannot hope for something better, that you cannot aim for something higher. Realism just demands that you are pragmatic and rational in the means used to attain those goals. Too long have I heard how people are just trying to be "realisitc" when all they are doing is just being lazy thinkers. Preparing for the worst means that one must do all things possible to prevent failure. Assuming the worst will happen anyway is just an excuse for inaction.
