| Introduction | Originally from San Francisco, Garcia was groomed under the wing of legendary art dealer, Jack Swanson. The galleries he owned, Swanson Art Galleries Ltd. were a chain of fine art galleries that spanned the nation from the early 1960's into the late 1980's. Garcia was promoted to Gallery Director and Director of Publishing in 1986. It was in 1989 that upon currating a Midwestern exhibit that she came to know several artists from the state of Kansas. Impressed with their abundance of talent and lack of venues to show their works, she conducted marketing research and discovered there were very few galleries in the state of Kansas. In 1990 she resigned from her position with Swanson Galleries Ltd. and moved to Lawrence Kansas. Phoenix Gallery was opened the following year. |
