| Introduction | Our family: Nick - age 32, electrical engineer by day, fabulous Daddy-home improvement guru by night. Kristy - age 32, labor and delivery RN by night, Mommy and director of our clan by day. Xavier - age 5, smiley, giggly, particular, temperamental, cuddly preschooler. He was born with a rare genetic condition called MEB, which is a type of congenital muscular dystrophy affecting his muscles, brain, and vision. Bennett - age 4, curious, energetic, spunky, opinionated, independent preschooler, born premature at 25 weeks gestation (weighed 1 lb. 3 oz!) and entered our family through adoption in November of 2005. Bennett was diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger's Disorder(which is a "mild" form of autism) in April of 2008. Being a parent of children with special needs is challenging, but rewarding beyond anything imaginable. I want to raise awareness about Xavier and Ben's diagnoses and hope that this site reaches others with similar challenges, so that we can share with each other. Welcome to our world, where each day is filled with craziness and joy :-) |
