| Introduction | We all have heard the name “Chaucer” and we could write pages and pages about Geoffrey Chaucer, but let’s just say that he was a major 14th century writer and wrote the famous “The Canterbury Tales” of which “The Knight’s Tale” is the first story. “The Knight’s Tale” examines the many typical aspects of knighthood such as courtly love and ethical dilemmas. Who better to be a chronicler for the Round Table? Chaucer was a member of the court of King Edward III. He became a poet laureate to King Edward III and also worked in the court of King Richard II. Chaucer was buried in Westminster Abbey in London, as was his right owing to his status as a tenant of the Abbey's close. In 1556, his remains were transferred to a more ornate tomb, making Chaucer the first writer interred in the area now known as Poets’ Corner. |
