| Introduction | I officially became an empty nester on September 1, 2010 when my younger child left for college. My wife and I realized that this will be a time to reinvent ourselves, our marriage and our family dynamics. After almost 20 years when our lives revolved around the kids and us as a foursome, the "dranos" (childranos) were off establishing independent lives and we would mostly be connected by a text message or phone call. Luckily we have a pretty good foundation and the communication flows easily and frequently in all directions. I am confident we will remain actively engaged in one another's lives, but it will be permanently different.
Why am I starting this blog? Having just passed a birthday this week, I am reflecting on life and realized that we are settling into emptynesterhood. Many friends are at this point or will be very soon. So, I thought it would be fun exchanging experiences with them and strangers who are living through similar emotions, challenges, breakthroughs and disappoints. It is life at a new stage. |
