Introduction At the age of 15 I was diagnosed with a condition called Myelodysplasia. This is a blood disease known as pre-leukaemia which means I have a very low number of white blood cells. White blood cells basically float around in the bloodstream cleaning up all the rubbish, particularly bacteria. Being very deficient in white blood cells meant that I was susceptible to alot of bacterial infections and viruses. Although I was treated with the best of medical care, the doctors and specialists only permanent solution was to have a bone marrow transplant. Worse still the chance of survival, particularly in the long term, following a bone marrow transplant was relatively low.
