About me

LocationLos Angeles, California
IntroductionI am an Emmy nominated writer, best known for the Fox animated family film, Our Friend, Martin. Starring James Earl Jones, Oprah Winfrey, John Travolta and Susan Sarandon, the film has over a million combined views on YouTube. On television, I spent several seasons on CBS's Judging Amy, freelanced on NCIS, and served as writer/consulting producer on MTV's South of Nowhere. I continue to script Emmy winning live arts programming for PBS. I started my career in the Walt Disney Writers Program. In 2011 and 2013, I was selected as a WGA Writers Access Project Honoree. In 2012, I was the first CBS Daytime Diversity Fellow. As a non-fiction writer, I serve as Senior Editor at UCLA’s Bunche Center for African American Studies. I write for print and online media about children, families, and public policy issues. I wrote, produced and directed the 8-part NPR radio series adaptation of the autobiography, Maggie's American Dream and I’m co-editor of the nonfiction book, Three Ring Circus: How Real Couples Balance Marriage, Work, and Family, where I got the catchy title for this blog. In 2013, I co-wrote the African-American historical fiction, The Promise.
