| Introduction | SisterLove is on a mission to eradicate the impact of HIV/AIDS and other reproductive health challenges upon women and their families through education, prevention, support and human rights advocacy in the United States and around the world. From its beginning in 1989, SisterLove's focus has been the AIDS crisis and it's impact upon women and particularly those of color. First labeled the "gay disease" and now thought of as a "minority health crisis", AIDS, and the virus that causes it, continue to challenge America by drawing attention to the many "isms" that are it's history. Today's fight against HIV/AIDS requires us to end ethnicity and gender based disparities in AIDS care, research and funding. Today's fight against AIDS also requires us to examine our attitudes and beliefs about poverty, racism, human rights, sexism and classism. In addition to "finding a cure", our aptitude for halting the pandemic rests upon our ability to convince everyone who is “unseen and unheard” to fight for their rights. No voice can be silenced, no dialogue can be feared if we are to realize reproductive justice in America. |
