| Introduction | I am a Birmingham, Alabama based film critic . I'm the main film reviewer for Film Fanaddict Magazine and FilmFanaddict.com as well as a founding member and current contributing editor of NotComing.com, one of Entertainment Weekly’s “Ten Best of the Web: Movies” for 2007. In early 2009 I joined the staff of PopMatters.com as a DVD critic. My primary areas of study are horror, exploitation, and “fringe” cinemas, with obscure cinema and lesser-known filmmakers being of particular interest. I have presented on these topics at Oxford University and Manchester Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom and in the United States at the SWTXPCA Conference and the George Lindsay Film Festival. I watch approximately 500 films a year; 300 for reviews and research and the rest for enjoyment. The upcoming book From the Arthouse to the Grindhouse will feature a chapter by me entitled “’It’s Only a Movie?’: Reality as Transgression in Exploitation Cinema," available 2009 from Wayne State University Press. |
