About me

Introduction "How Fresh?" "An hour, maybe two." Six hours later, we bumped the buffalo herd. An hour after that, we stalked to within 180 yards. The bull, the big bull, stepped into an opening. Sweat sucked my shirt to the skin on my back. I pressed the rifle firm to my shoulder and settled it into the shooting sticks. A hot breath seemed to singe my lungs. The bull took an unhurried, buffalo step. Still clear, I squeezed. "What happened?" "I missed." We sat without talking, staring at an empty field and shared a banana - our only food since breakfast. Then, with the sun unrelenting and our feet burning, we began the slow, heavy walk back to the vehicle. The following morning, two hours before sunrise, I awoke hopeful that we might find a fresh buffalo track.
