| Introduction | I have always enjoyed writing but it wasn't until I joined a writing group that I discovered how much I did not know. My first success was getting second place with a short story I wrote, "Fish and Chip Night." My short stories are very Australian with strong Aussie characters. My interest in family history pushed me into the direction of historical writing. My novel, "Echoes of a Blacksmith" was based on my research and was a major undertaking, mostly because of the research involved. Being my first novel made it even harder. Sticking as close to the original information about this family was extremely difficult. I enjoyed being able to combine all my interests - writing, art, and family history. I still refer to this one as my 'practise novel'. My next big challenge was writing a non-fiction book about the pine plantation at Rosebud. I gathered memories from the locals and added factual information with old images. Now I face my newest challenge, a real novel! |
