Introduction I trained as an archaeologist many years ago, and for a few years worked on excavations and in museums. But the impoverished lifestyle and the hideous weather drove me into telecommunications where I worked for over 15 years. However, once archaeology is in your blood, it never goes away, so I returned to archaeology 10 years ago, selecting a better climate in which to work! I am now researching dryland subsistence strategies in the mid Holocene eastern Sahara at UCL, London. I live in an area on the edge of London, in the Rotherhithe peninsula, and have a considerable interest in the ship building and dockland history of the area.
