About me

Occupation Writer
Location Victoria, BC, Canada
Introduction I won the national RODERICK HAIG- BROWN AWARD, 2016, for environmental writing, largely for this blog (www.fishfarmnews.blogspot.com) that has become a global portal for the environmental damage made by Norwegian-style fish farms. I won the Art Downs Award for 2012 for sustained and outstanding writing on environmental issues, in my case, fish farms. The award was based on 10 columns on fish farm issues in the Times Colonist newspaper, three public submissions to the Cohen Commission on Fraser sockeye and this blog, www.fishfarmnews.blogspot.com To avoid the pop-up ads, simply only click a web URL, as all followup info is in these.
Interests I have the great fortune to have a wide educational background and various careers. My education is as follows: B.Sc. in Biochemisty and Zoology, U of C; B.A with Honours, English and Philosophy, U of Liverpool; and an MPA, U of Victoria. I have a background in law, finance and policy analysis, and worked in Treasury Board Staff, Ministry of Finance, BC. I write on fishing and fisheries policy analysis and appear in more than 50 magazines, newspapers and on websites across North America. My literary writing has been published to the same extent around the world and translated into Spanish and Hindi. I have a wide list of deep interests: brain science of artists; fisheries policy and fish farms; reprography in Canada; and write poetry, fiction, lit-non-fiction and novels having 10 books out now. Of these four are on fly fishing and five are poetry titles. I am at work on my eighth book of poetry, a trilogy of novels and several books of literary non-fiction, including one on the remote saltwater fishing resorts in BC. My two websites are: www.dcreid.ca; and, www.catchsalmonbc.com.
