| Introduction | I am currently an instructor at a small college in NE Ohio. Before that I worked as an administrator in a small but growing church. For a long time, I was Joe Average Christian. I attended church regularly, occasionally read the Bible and even participated in a few small groups. I remember thinking I was all right with God. I credit my awareness that being Christian is more than going to church and following a few rules to my son, who introduced me to the deeper meaning of Christian commitment and study. I seem to have taken the long way round in arriving at spiritual growth, but I always did prefer the scenic route. I have come a realization that most of the things I had been taught were incomplete. We concentrate on what a Christian does. But we aren't Christians because of what we do; we do what we do because we are Christians. God isn't holy because of what He does, but because holiness is His nature. When He calls us to be holy as He is holy, it is a call for to allow Him to change our basic nature. |
