Introduction When I first experimented with art I tried traditional paints and paper or canvas, but soon realized that I was a lot more passionate about using found materials: discarded wood, metal, old newspapers or used shoes. I was drawn to the works of Kurt Schwitters, Robert Rauschenberg and the like, who gave existing items new life by putting them in a new context. Then life took me in other directions. For many years art was set aside while I pursued other interests. About a decade ago I discovered quilting and enjoyed “painting” with fabric whenever I had the time. But it was my recent discovery of rescued designer home-decor and upholstery fabrics, with their exciting textures and bold colors, that reignited my creative passion in earnest. I now try to give new life to no-longer needed pieces of exquisite fabrics, to turn useless materials into useful items. By doing so I am hoping to reduce waste while bringing lots of color into everyday life.
