IntroductionI am a naturalist by birth, training, profession, and passion. My childhood spent as a “mud and water daughter” in NE Iowa led to a degree in outdoor education from Northland College and a Field Naturalist Master’s from the University of Vermont. Now I’m the Naturalist/Education Director at the Cable Natural History Museum in Cable, Wisconsin. When I arrived at the Museum in 2011, I inherited a legacy of excellent natural history education. Lois Nestle, the Museum’s founding director and first naturalist, wrote a delightful newspaper column called “Wayside Wanderings.” My weekly “Natural Connections” column is published in more than twenty local and regional newspapers. Multiple articles have won Excellence in Craft awards from the Outdoor Writers Association of American, and now my second Natural Connections book has won an award as well! This blog serves at least three purposes. First, it is an archive for my weekly columns. Second, I’d like to help transport you into the woods with me, where we can experience and learn about the beautiful Northwoods together. Third, I’d like to inspire you to look a little closer and discover your own natural connections wherever you are.
