About me

Location Vancouver, BC, Canada
Introduction I have enjoyed sewing for almost as long as I can remember--when I was six or seven years old, my mother taught me to sew by hand, and I started out making sleeping bags for my stuffed animals. I became interested in patchwork in my early teens, but cotton fabrics ca. 1980 were awful, and my hometown's fabric shop closed, so I gave up for several years. In graduate school, a roommate who quilted, plus access to a local quilt shop, renewed my interest. I became an avid quilter, and inspired by Jill Liddell's book, Japanese Quilts, I developed a particular passion for Japanese fabrics. Thanks to all of the beautiful Japanese silks and cottons now available through the internet, I continue to enjoy making quilts, clothes, bags, scarves, pillows, and other items with all manner of gorgeous Japanese textiles. I also love batiks, hand-dyed cottons and linens, African mud cloth, and all manner of other fabrics.
