Sponges and tongues are frequently misspelled. Is it because both are thirsty?

I think that's highly unlikely. "Sponges" can be misspelled as "Spondges" with an extra 'd'. "Tongues" can be misspelled as "Tounges" with an extra 'u' or "Tonges" which is completely wrong, because you need to insert a 'u' and an 'e'.
