| Introduction | I am a pharmacist who quickly realised that the taking of medicines was not going to change a lot in the way of improving the lives of remote living Aboriginal people. My mind went back to the 1970s when I worked as a social development consultant on the Australian Assistance Plan. This encouraged communities to identify and put forward priorities for funding and from a "pool" of funds that they alone could dip in to. We have to find a way of delivering taxpayers money to Aboriginal communities that need additional resources to "get right". Through this column I hope others will join in. |
