IntroductionI grew up exposed to different cultures, first in Japan, then in Brazil. My parents were from neither of those countries nor from the U.S., but I attended American schools abroad. As an adult in the U.S., I found my vocation as a newspaper reporter. It was like “traveling”; it suited my adventurous spirit. Next, I published Atlanta’s first Hispanic paper, Mundo Hispanico. After that I started Latino Sounds, a Mexican bands/events business. However, during this economic crisis in the U.S, trying to make a living from my once thriving business became like squeezing the last drops of blood from a corpse. That is when I chose to go on The Endless Trip. In 2010 I rented out my property in Boca Raton, FL. While I was in Australia and Malaysia I translated from Portuguese to English Lyz Muino’s novel of reincarnation. Then I went to Brazil, and in 2012 due to sickness, I stopped roaming; I stayed in Marietta, GA, USA. Now I am living in Piriapois, Uruguay, which could become home. I do not enjoy tourist travel; I do not want to watch people as if they were animals in a zoo. I want to live them. On Earthy Reporter I offer you slices of life from different cultures.
InterestsPROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND * Current work on the road - writer/translator for Know How Innova, a market research company in Sao Paulo, Brazil. * 1994-2009 Latino Sounds, owner; I started and developed an agency for Mexican bands, which grew from a business representing local bands to an agency geared to famous Mexican bands. I booked bands and put on events in the Eastern U.S.; I advertised events in Spanish, primarily print and radio. * 1982-1993 Mundo Hispanico, publisher/editor; I started and developed Atlanta’s first Hispanic newspaper, now Atlanta’s leading Hispanic newspaper. The one-woman, home-based operation that started with a credit card and no capital, became a business with several full-time and many part-time workers. The paper won national journalism awards, including one for my reporting on Ku Klux Klan activity aimed at Hispanics in Georgia. * 1980-1981 Reporter, The Atlanta Journal and The Atlanta Constitution. My freelance stories in the 1980s and 1990s included stories from Brazil for CNN, The (Baltimore) Sun, The Christian Science Monitor. * Education: Elementary school, American School in Japan, Tokyo, Japan; junior high, high school, Escola Graduada de Sao Paulo, American school in Sao Paulo, Brazil; B.A., Romance Languages, State University of New York
