My blogs
| Introduction | I dabbled with baking for years, even tried sugar roses once while in my sophomore year of college…it was thick and clunky, ew! It wasn’t until I was pregnant and having a baby shower that I decided, “Yes, I can do that!” (Referring to the “cake shows”) I made my baby shower cake, and I was hooked! That was back in 2007, and I have been baking and decorating off and on until now. |

| Interests | I didn’t always know that I wanted to decorate cakes. I joke that I should have known from an early age. There was this substitute teacher in high school that would tell us stories of cakes she would make for friends and family, and I found it fascinating. Creating art with food, how great! Then there came the Food Network baking shows. I was obsessed! The amazing way they made such beautiful gravity defying cakes was insane. |
| Favorite movies | After years of “regular” college and two associate degrees–one in science, general studies and one in science, physics–I decided cake was my future. It made me happy and I got lost in it–which for me was a good sign. In 2011, I decided to attend Culinard at Virginia College in Birmingham, AL for pastry arts. I knew I could decorate cakes but I wanted them to taste better than they looked and figured they could guide me to my goals. I met some great instructors who still help me when I need it! |
| Favorite music | I graduated in 2012 and spent roughly 3 years in the industry working as a pastry assistant, a line cook/kitchen manager/pastry chef(yeah, it was a crazy job), and finally pastry chef. My stent as pastry chef wasn’t long, but it was that last job that made me realize that I truly loved cake art. I will always have a special place in my heart for plated desserts–and they may pop up on this blog from time to time–and the hustle and bustle of a full house, but I could never get lost and enjoy plated desserts they way I do cake art.
