About me

Introduction In 2005, after 8 months of hoping, we discovered we were pregnant. At our 18-week appointment, our biggest concern was deciding whether to find out the sex of the baby. After joyfully receiving the news that it was a "she," we sat through an increasingly tense ultrasound, after which we were bluntly told our little one had "many problems." In shock, we tried to absorb what we were hearing: A probable chromosomal abnormality, a problem with her brain & a heart defect, which would likely need immediate attention after birth...if she survived that long. We endured the next 5 months of our suddenly high-risk pregnancy, & delivered our little angel on October 14th. Elizabeth Joy, would have heart surgery on her 3rd day of life, followed by many often life-threatening complications, but would finally arrive home when she was 62 days old. She has spent a significant portion of her life in the hospital due to chronic conditions which continue to threaten her health & life. Yet she has emerged from each challenge a brave girl who is full of joy & delights in each day. Her life thrust us onto a journey that has blessed us, challenged us & changed us forever. Her story begins here.
