| Introduction | At the time I wrote this blog, I was a student at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA. I used this blog as a way to share my experiences with friends, family and any other interested parties while I worked in India in the summer of 2007. I interned with the Center for Microfinance (CMF) in Chennai which is in the southeastern state of Tamil Nadu. My research was focused on the credit and savings behavior of women in self-help groups, which is microfinance model, unique to India. My research was conducted in and around Holalkere, which is a small town a few hours north of Bangalore in the state of Karnataka.
