| Introduction | Hello to all and welcome to MMLQR. I am a former physician (specialist in medical microbiology). In my career I have been able care for people with infectious diseases, and to organize medical laboratories to help provide information to help with infection related diagnosis. Early on I learned that laboratory information helps doctors towards diagnosis and therapy.... provided the laboratory information generated is CORRECT!! WRONG information does not help. Proficiency Testing Programs (External Quality Assessment or EQA), helps detect errors, so we created CMPT first for our city, then for British Columbia, and then across Canada and then international. EQA by itself can be helpful, but for best effect combine EQA with better information and education, and so we started our POLQM courses on Quality Improvement and Quality Management. That was some 35-40 years ago. The programs are still going strong through University of British Columbia (UBC). Today I am retired and have passed these activities onto others. Doing things RIGHT is BETTER!!!" |
