| Interests | Nyota Ndogo, her real name Mwanaisha, born in Mombasa in 1981, is a musician from Kenya who performs taarabu-influenced-hip hop music.Nyota Ndogo is from the coastal city of Mombasa.She was a school drop-out who worked as a house maid.Her father Abdallah Atibu was amusician with a local band. But Nyota Ndogo did not take up musical career until being inspired by hip hop group K-South's lyricks, she was discovered by Andrew Burchell - Mombasa-based producer.Nyota Ndogo has released four albums:CHEREKO, TUMETOKA MBALI, MPENZI and MAMA WA KAMBO. Her song "TAKE CARE" is featured on the International World 2003 Compilation Album. While "CHEREKO" is on the rough guide to the music of Kenya Compilation: the same track was aiso featured on the rough guide-off the beaten track compilaton.In 2007, her song "NALIA" has been used as a them song of a documentry in my genes by Lupita, its about alibinism. which was released 2009. she has also done severals songs on issues afffecting the society i.e corruption songs "Ufisadi",Drugs,Aids and Environment.She has collaborated with Nonini on the track "nibebe" and Necessary Noise on her " NATAKA TOA".She has also collaborated with the Late Rap Singer: Lady S Mende and Mpenzi, Mr Blue.On her new album, "Mama wa kambo" she has collaborated with Ali Choki the song usinifiche and Mambo Kombo Remix she featured Boby Mapesa and Collo of Kleptominiax .She won several awards i.e Kisima Awards Best Taarab singer in 2003 and The Best Female Singer 2005, Best Video 2007, "Watu na Viatu" Coast awards, She won best dress artist, 2007 Best Female Artist,Best Female Artist and Best song "Mama".In 2008, Best album,Best Voice,and the Best Female Artist. She was nominated for the Best female artist in 2007 PAM Awards. Her song Watu na Viatu was nominated for the Best East Africa Song at the 2007 Tanzania Music Award and many more awards which she is expecting. |
