| Introduction | I grew up in Fleetwood within sight of the sea and my late teens and twenties were spent working on the sea as a Merchant Navy officer. This was followed by marriage, three great children and a few years messing around in the IT industry. I now live on the northwest coast of England, close to the sea once again. |

| Favorite books | My favourite book in 2010 was Sea of Poppies by Amitav Ghosh. I have read dozens of wonderful books in 2011 and my favourite so far is River of Smoke by Amitav Ghosh. He is a genius! |
