| Introduction | The East West Center for Counselling and Training and the Indian Institute of Psychodrama (IIP) have been pioneers in bringing experiential and creative approaches to mental health training in India. East West Center was the first in India to introduce a structured Diploma in Expressive Arts Therapy, integrating art, movement, music, storytelling, poetry, play and psychodrama. Our training is experiential, with a strong emphasis on ethical practice, personal development and supervision. The Indian Institute of Psychodrama, founded by Dr Magdalene Jeyarathnam, the first psychodramatist trained in India, was the first institute in the country to establish structured diploma-level training in Psychodrama. Our programmes combine psychodrama, sociometry, group processes, supervised practice and experiential learning. Our work has grown through training, workshops, conferences and seminars across India and internationally. At the heart of both institutes is a simple belief: therapy cannot be learned from theory alone. We learn through creativity, action, relationship and experience, while developing approaches that are meaningful within the Indian cultural context. |
