About me

Location Taos, New Mexico
Introduction Born in Palo Alto, CA in 1949, Bonner was immersed in the sensibility of the Bay Area Figurative Movement from an early age. From1963 to1967 he painted in the studio of acclaimed figurative and landscape painter Ann Hogle, learning from her to observe a subject – usually a figure – in sharp detail and elemental aspect and to analyze paintings in progress on the strength of abstract qualities. Painting independently since then, the dialog between objective representation of specific colors and shapes and aesthetic pleasure inherent in materials and compositions has remained a central theme in Bonner’s work. All of Bonner’s oils are directly observed; many are painted outdoors. Bonner began experimenting with monoprints at the University of New Mexico, Taos, in 2003, extending this same direct approach to printmaking. Dwarka is represented by John Natsoulas Gallery in Davis CA and has been represented by Munson Gallery in Santa Fe NM, Rosenthal Fine Arts in Chicago IL, Tupelo Road Gallery in Taos NM and Atherton Gallery in Menlo Park CA.
