Introduction Atalanta Dance was born out of a passion for physical fitness, a love of the art of dance and a recognition of the complex needs of physical artists working in the field.

After training as a dancer, I moved into postgraduate study in dance science research. I discovered the work being done in dance science to be so relevant to all performers that I set up Atalanta as a means of sharing this information with other dancers.

All too often in dance training, there is an imbalance between the prominence of artistic and athletic development. For a dancer to perform at their peak and to avoid serious injury, the development of physical fitness is as important as the development of artistic talent.

90% of professional dancers any given year will sustain an injury that prevents them from working. That's a frightening statistic, and it's completely avoidable. Training our bodies to withstand what we throw at them can prevent a huge amount of avoidable injuries. The mission of Atalanta Dance is prevention through physical training, good nutrition and the adaptation of a healthy lifestyle.
