Location Scotland
Introduction From an area of Scotland where it has been said, "the place where clouds come to die." In this area some sheep still survive on the hills tended by an ever reducing number of hill farmers and even fewer shepherds. Here a once tight-knit community has drastically changed over the years. A very different life has taken over from the one I knew as a child.
Interests The natural world, environmental issues, literature, agriculture, indigenous cultures, music, the arts, disability issues, interactions involving the socially excluded.
Favorite Movies "Into the West" "Out of Africa" "Calendar Girls" "E.T."
Favorite Music Classical, folk, world, rock, pop and a real mix of tastes in between. Never, ever, ever country and western! Bird song and sounds of the natural world too, especially dipper song and ravens.
Favorite Books Poetry and prose by Kathleen Jamie, Alice Oswald, Don Paterson, RS Thomas, Robin Robertson, 'Goose Music' by Andy Brown and John Burnside is fantastic, Tom Pow, Jen Hadfield, Elizabeth Bishop, Robert Crawford, Jospehine Dickinson, Mary Oliver. Work by Roger Deakin, Jim Perrin, Jim Crumley and 'The Wild Places' by Robert Macfarlane. "That They May Face The Rising Sun" and "Memoir" by John McGahern. It's so hard to choose ....apart from Winnie the Pooh by AA Milne, for the big kid that lives on in me!
