| Introduction | I'm somebody who's probably pretty much like you: I've got stuff to say and my friends and family need a break. I've been many things in my life---a corporate photographer, an executive speechwriter, a dishwasher, a back-up singer (don't ask), a writer of unpublished poetry, and now, a freelance writer who is lucky enough to have great clients. I'm single, not because I don't believe in relationships but because I *do* and have, even after all these years, never met anyone I wanted to spend 24/7 with. (Well, I did once, a long time ago, but he was taken, and that's a story for another day.) Until recently, I was the human guardian of a ginormous, loving, and very funny Australian Shepherd, Jackson, and don't get me started on what dogs have to teach us about the world. When I worry that I'm not doing great things with my life but don't know enough to live it much differently, I remember this from author Hugh Prather: "At this time, it is now. At midnight tomorrow, it will be now. And at high noon in a thousand years, it will still be now. Learning to respond to now is all there is to learn." |
