About me

Location Chicago / Northern Indiana
Introduction Freelance writer and travel enthusiast John C.Gill developed his passion for the road while touring the Deep South decades ago, as a back seat passenger in his dad's 1967 Buick LeSabre. Now, after traveling tens of thousands of miles, he's still captivated by the road. So the writer, who divides his time between Chicago and LaPorte County Indiana, often revisits the South, traveling the interstates and back roads and chronicling his observations and experiences.

Guided by curiosity, Gill exits the superhighways to explore landscapes, to sample regional cuisine, and to chat with locals. He favors genuine Americana over tourist-hyped attractions, and prefers roadside diners to gourmet restaurants. A perceptive traveler, he strives to capture the true complexion of a place, whether positive or negative, and often, his stories illustrate the blemishes. Gill's work has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers. Here, he features some of his favorite journal excerpts.
