| Introduction | As long as I can remember I have pictured the year as a circle. In my mind’s eye it “began” in the Fall around 4 o’clock (as you face the circle) and moved towards Christmas at the top. As a child, Christmas vacation took up the entire quarter of the circle as did summer vacation on the opposite side. The concept of time stretching in a line from some indeterminate point to another never made sense to me. As an adult I learned my way of seeing the year was not unique. |
