Introduction I am a devout atheist and am an American Cinema student forever. (love international too-- AKIRA KURASAWA, FW Murnau. ALL the old film noire & Golden Age of Hollywood pieces, as well as the old guard avant-garde neo-realists, New wave and German Expressionists. I love film, technically and emotionally. Chaplin is my idol, I love them all and what they have to say; Kubrick, Pollack, (hard to believe they are gone now!) Scorsese, Altman, especially and FF Coppola, all the independents make the film world the dynamic entity it is.
Interests Interests and Hobbies: All aspects of theatre, Playwrighting, Mural & canvas oil painting, Travel, surfing, body surfing, BC skiing Charles Spencer Chaplin, Meconopsis Grandis-(master gardening, ) kayaking, writing and playwrighting, fixing things, painting, poltical and humanistic activism, political science and law, biological anthropology. Horror film hosts of the 60’s, 70’s and 1980’s. Romance and travel, taking things apart, cleaning my house as a Zen exercise. Simple good food. Elegance in simple things. I love my daughters and grand daughter and their partners and I love my fire/rescue/ medic family also and the science and art communities.
Favorite Movies Almost before I could talk, I first saw THE RED SHOES performed in the round in a tent at the Indianapolis Fairgrounds, and it was Marvelous! I fell in love with performance then and it wasn't long before I was directing my own interpretations of faery stories casting neighborhood children as characters in barefoot, backyard productions of The Snow Queen, etc.Movies and Shows: ALL SILENT FILM AND LOST FILM, Fav Opera: TOSCA Benny and Joon, Equus, Cook County Jail Instructional Cadaver Films for EMT training, German Expressionism such as Blue Angel, Doktor Kaligari, anything by the Great American Playwrights, Albee, Guare, Lanford Wilson, August Wilson, William Hoffman, (esp. The Ghosts of Versaille and Riga, ) Gerber, and the not so American playwrights but still Great: Pinter, Brecht, Ibsen, Moliere. .. Van Itallie, and the playwrights who learned from them: Jon Robin Baitz (3 hotels and tv show: Brothers and Sisters) and Tony Kushman: Angels in America, Martin McDonaugh.
Favorite Music Music: Denis Bathory, (the direct descendant of Lady Bathory of Dracula myth) Whales singing, water rushing in winter. Grieg, Debussy, Pavarotti, Andreas Bocelli, at the moment; sound track from The BEACH and GARDEN STATE. All the great operas, all music of the 20th century except Mariachi music over a transistor radio exceeding FCC broadcasting power limits, and anything Art Bell claims comes from the bowels of hell.
Favorite Books Books: Zoo Story-Edward Albee, Japanese Gardens, Seductive Cinema by James Card, Introduction to Physical Anthropology- Kilmore, Translating L.A.-Peter Theroux, Rowing to Latitiude-Jill Fredston, This Demon Haunted World- Carl Sagan, Desolate Angel-Kerouac, Voyage of the Beagle, Darwin, Zen in the Art of Climbing Mountains, Shulman. Anything by Krakauer's mentor David Roberts, especially Escape Routes and Great Hoaxes and the book about Comb Ridge. Favorite poet: Fredrico de Garcia Lorca
